Ran
Duo Light
RAN (燃) is a pair of sculptural lights inspired by joss paper traditionally burned as offerings in Chinese ancestral worship and folk rituals.
Rooted in memories of growing up in coastal Fujian and revisiting similar traditions in Taiwan, the work reflects on the evolving relationship between ritual, remembrance and contemporary life.
Translating the ephemeral act of burning into a lasting source of illumination, RAN reimagines the symbolic transformation of paper through fire. What was once consumed by flames becomes a vessel for light, exploring the space between presence and absence, material and memory.
